Whether you are working from remote as part of your normal routine or due to an emergency situation, you should familiarize yourself with the resources available to you from remote and how they work. All of this presumes that you have Internet access from your location, and this access is not being filtered in a manner that would interfere with these services.
Microsoft Teams combines elements of Skype, Sharepoint and other services into a convenient interface.
Several Krannert groups are rolling out the use of Teams, but even if you do not belong a Team, you can use Teams to chat with one or more colleagues and host Skype-like video sessions.
The Teams application is rolling out to all Faculty/Staff computers. If you need it but don't see it, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. If you need it on your Personally-Owned Windows machine, download it here.
There are Teams apps for Android and iOS in their respective app stores.
Are you able to connect to VPN for other University resources that may require it?
Can you work with you group/department?
Does your group/department have/need a Team in Microsoft Teams?
Does your group/department have a plan for alternative forms of communication?
Be conscious of security concerns when operating remotely. Sensitive information like FERPA certain kinds of University business should not be discussed, stored or shared through 3rd party tools without University approval. For example, Dropbox is *not* an approved place to store sensitive information. For storing and sharing sensitive information, the U: and V: drives are appropriate, as are University websites designed for storing/sharing such things.
