Krannert School of Management Laptop Requirements and Recommendations

The Krannert School of Management does not require our students to have a personal laptop. There are however many advantages to having a personal device when time doesn’t allow you to visit one of our labs or walkup kiosks. Krannert virtualizes most of our standard lab software and that is accessible from Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Minimum Recommendations for a Windows Laptop

Windows 10

Intel Core i5 or better

8GB RAM or better

Video card

Hard drive

250 GB or larger

**SSD recommended for better performance

Optical drive

not required (only if/when you discover a need)

Gigabit Ethernet and

Wireless 802.11 (g, n, and/or ac)

External ports

at least one USB 2.0 port

Windows Defender (Included with Windows)

Apply all critical patches

And set to check for/apply automatically

Mac Information

Please note that OS X 10.11 or later is required to use our Virutual Apps.

Although Mac OS will work with most of Krannert's resources it is not recommended. There is some software such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and Palisade Decision Tools that will only work on Windows. To avoid these limitations a Windows computer is recommended.

What Support Does the Krannert Computing Center Offer on Personally Owned Devices?

  • We will assist with configuring email, wireless, and printing.
  • We will also assist with connecting to our Virtual Apps.
  • We cannot assist with troubleshooting software and hardware related issues. We recommend looking up a local computer repair shop for assistance with these issues.
